Liberal Democrat MP Andrew George is backing a campaign to keep tax breaks for companies who produce biodiesel.


Producers converting cooking oil into biodiesel currently take advantage of a 20p differential however that is due to end next April.


The St Ives MP, who leads the Lib Dem Environment Team, has been fulfilling with the UK sustainable biodiesel alliance.


Mr George said "a variety of little services in Cornwall presently make cash from used cooking oil".


He added: "In order to be able to get this kind of market going it does require just a little bit of lift which is available in the form of tax foregone."


Biodiesel is a mix of traditional diesel, rapeseed and vegetable oils.
